Ancient Egypt- Hieroglyphics Ms. Berry Social Studies 6th Grade

How do we know about Egypt’s early kings and governments? They left behind written records. Developed a system of writing called hieroglyphics. Used more than 700 symbols. Some stood for whole words or sounds while others represented letters.

Scribes Egyptian scribes were very educated Took many years to learn all the symbols Jobs included keeping records of taxes and laws

What did they write on? First they wrote on clay pottery Then wrote on stone and a paper-like material called papyrus. Our word paper comes from the word papyrus.
