C OURSE OF S TUDY GRADE EIGHT 1 st Nine Weeks Lab Safety, Chemistry: Periodic Table of Elements, Atoms, Formulas, and Equations 2 st Nine Weeks Astronomy: Stars, Galaxies, and Wavelengths, Rotation/Revolution, Lunar Cycle, Physics and Energy 3 st Nine Weeks Earth Science review, Plate Tectonics, Topographic Maps, Weather, Solar/Weather/Ocean Systems, Ecology and Ecosystems 4 st Nine Weeks Countdown to STAAR Program, Biology Prep: Variables/Controls, Macromolecules/Nutrition, pH, Enzymes, Osmosis/Diffusion

PAP E XPECTATIONS 8 th Grade PAP classes will investigate concepts for the grade level TEKS. 8 th Grade PAP classes will be exposed to concepts related to above level TEKS. (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) All students will complete an at home project during the Fall and Spring Semesters (project based, problem based learning, or service learning project/S.O.A.R). All students need at least a 75 at the end of the 1 st grading period to remain in PAP. A grade below 80 any time after the end of 1 st grading period will cause the student to be dismissed from the PAP class.

N OTE -T AKING ASSIGNMENTS Notes are assigned to be completed as homework. Notes prime students’ background knowledge. Cornell Notes are to be completed in Cornell Note Format (2 columns). Other Note formats include: Outlining and Mind Mapping. Note-taking #1-3 will be in an assigned format. Note-taking #4 and beyond will be in student choice of format. Notes are assigned on Wednesday and due the following Wednesday. They can be assessed with a quiz (open note). Ten points off of the quiz grade if Notes are missing at the time of the quiz. ZAP assigned if a quiz is not given and Notes are taken for a completion grade but are missing.

C ORRECTIONS P OLICY Students have up to 5 days to make corrections on an assignment that is handed back. An assignment of a grade 69 or below can be corrected. Students must attend tutorials to make corrections on an assignment that has a failing grade.
