General Rules Open to all Johns Hopkins undergraduate, graduate and medical students, post-doctoral fellows, medical residents and staff. Team size: 2-4 members Focus: develop strategic recommendations for a specific challenge faced by a client Duration: 3 hours to research and develop recommendations and put together presentation

General Rules (cont.) 2 rounds of judging: 1 st round – 5 finalists selected from their respective group (20 total teams, 4 teams per group) 2 nd round – Finalists will give their final presentation and judged by a panel of management consultants

Format & Schedule How To Apply Registration Deadline: Wednesday, October 28 th at 11:59 PM EST Submit single-paged resumes of all team members (in one PDF file) to the following address: s should be titled: "2015 JHBCC Mini-CC Registration: (Insert Team Name)” Note that your registration will be considered incomplete if you do not submit your resumes by the registration deadline.

Format & Schedule The Day of the Competition 8:45-9:15 AMCase introduction + Q&A 9:30-12:30 PMCase solving (You need to find your own workplace!) 1-2:50 PMFirst round presentations 2:50-3:50 PMJudges select finalists 4:30-6 PMFinal round presentations (open to public) 6-7 PMHappy hour!!

One member serves as the team leader, registers for the whole team, and will receive notifications via Registration deadline: October 28 th, Wednesday, at 11:59 PM EST

Judging Criteria Structure Evident structure and logical framework for analysis Comprehensive issues, problems and their interrelationships Analysis Rigorous data gathering and interpretation Use of appropriate theory, principles and models Recommendation Adequately addresses problem Suitably justified Demonstrates creative, original thinking Presentation Well planned, logically organized and presented

Case-Solving Process Understand the problem Develop structure (plan of action) What are the major questions you need to answer to make a recommendation? Outline major areas as well as specific pieces of analysis Analysis Conduct research (product comparison, company financials, market reports, etc.), cite your sources (footnotes, references, appendices) Analyze data, calculations/assumptions as needed Make charts, figures, tables, etc.; both quantitative and qualitative

Case-Solving Process Recommendation Develop recommendation based on analysis, ideally show creativity Directly addresses the question(s) Back up with specifics (includes numbers where applicable) Presentation 10 min presentation + 5 min Q&A/feedback ~10 slides + appendix slides Good looking slides make a difference! Remember: you only get 3 hrs!!

How you can prepare ahead of time Look through sample case competition presentations, e.g., Prepare a presentation slide template Agree on general division of labor among teammates ahead of time Think about general analyses you can do or where you can look for data

Sample Case: Anheuser-Busch InBev Anheuser-Busch InBev is a Belgian-Brazilian multinational beverage and brewing company headquartered in Leuven, Belgium. As the world's largest brewer Anheuseur-Busch InBev's portfolio includes global brands like Budweiser, Beck's and Brahma, smaller multi-country brands like Leffe and Hoegaarden, and regional brands such as Bud Light. Anheuser-Busch InBev is thinking about acquiring Grupo Modelo, Mexico's leading brewer and owner of the global Corona brand. The CEO has hired you to do an analysis of the feasibility of this acquisition. He would like to know whether it is a good idea to do this acquisition, and if so, at what price should he be making the bid?
