An Overview of the UK Diaspora What can 300,000 DBLs achieve? Overview The Diaspora in the UK is fragmented along country and tribal lines as well as on political and a socio-economic basis. This results in isolated silos of people who generally do not meet or communicate well. CANUK The High Commission, working with CANUK has a strong and growing knowledge of the location, number and interests of their Diaspora populations. The Diaspora has a very high level of contact with people at home. Estimate number of Nigerians in UK 2m-3m Nigerians 1m families 200k – 300k Business Leaders “Diaspora Business Leaders” defined:- A DBL is someone who owns or runs a business or organisation that employs people either in the UK or in Africa. 4

To be effective in engaging the global network of Nigerians in diaspora, we propose you build on CANUK’s impact in the UK by establishing a regional network of umbrella organisations that the various diaspora groups representing Nigerians can belong to. AMERICA CANADA SOUTH AMERICA AFRICA UK EUROPE ASIA CHINA AUSTRALIA Nigerian Diaspora Commission HQ, Abuja
