Presentation transcript:

 A young fly discovers, day by day, that there is a lot to learn about being an insect, including the dangers of flyswatters and that heroes come in all shapes and sizes.

 When Marcus's mother has chemotherapy for her cancer and loses her hair, he tries to find new hair for her to make her well again.

 Includes bibliographical references. A fictionalized account of how in 1849 a Virginia slave, Henry "Box" Brown, escapes to freedom by shipping himself in a wooden crate from Richmond to Philadelphia.

 Charlie, the smallest child in his first grade class, is amazed to discover that of the three pumpkins his teacher brings to school, the tiniest one has the most seeds.

 "Melanie Kroupa books." A young farm girl tries to catch her favorite chicken, until she learns something about the hen that makes her change her ways.

 As her family travels by wagon train to Oregon, a young girl gathers scraps of cloth so that she can make a quilt. Includes historical note.

 Ruthie loves tiny things and when she finds a tiny camera on the playground she is very happy, but after she lies and says the camera belongs to her, nothing seems to go right.

 Delly Porter enjoys the feel of soft dirt beneath her feet as she walks to and from school, but after a classmate makes her feel ashamed of having no shoes she learns that her parents and others, too, see value in things that do not cost money.

 Dodsworth does as little work as he can, collecting items from a junkyard and placing them in his thrift store for sale, until he happens upon a pink refrigerator that spurs him to do much more with his life.

 The Goldilocks story takes a fine twist when an endearing snow bear family and a curious Inuit girl meet center stage.

 Poems with clues prompt readers to guess the identities of ten camouflaged animals, revealed in gatefolds, and fact pages present information on each species, discussing their camouflage and life cycles.
