Beginning of school blogs  Read “The Important Book” by Margaret Wise Brown. Afterwards ask the children to respond to the following:  There are many important things about me, but the most important thing is …”  Then use this information to create a running power point presentation for open house posted with a picture of the student.

Beginning of School Blogs  What are your goals for this year in math?  What is your favorite subject? Why?  What subject are you best at?  What would you like for your teacher to know about you?  If you could make the perfect teacher, what would she/he be like?  What would you like for me to review before the test?  What do you think are some important class rules?

Blogging in Reading Class 1. Start a favorite books blog, a place where kids can check out what their buddies are reading. 2. After reading a story in class, have students compare and contrast themselves to the main character in the story. 3. List 5 facts or five opinions found in the story.

More reading blog topics  What do you think it would feel like to be a Cricket in Times Square?  Would you eat fried worms? If so, what would be your favorite topping.  Describe your “Terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day”.  Write a summary of the story read in class.

Blogs in Math – Problem of the day  If you wanted to find the number of days in two years, what would you need to know before you began. What steps would you use to solve the problem.  How many legs are on 5 chairs. Explain how you got your answer.  When you are multiplying, do you prefer to use the traditional method or the lattice method. Tell why.

Blogs in Science – Thought provoking questions before a unit of study  Ask students to create a hypothesis before completing a class experiment?  Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Why do you think that?  What will happen if I place a paper plate over a full glass of water and turn it upside down?  List 5 important facts from the chapter.  Write 3 questions that you think should be on the science test.

Blogs in Social Studies  If you could write a “Bill of Rights” for your family, what rights would you include?  If you could write a “Bill of Rights” for the classroom, what rights would you include?  Describe your favorite city to your classmates and tell 3 fun things to do there, 3 educational places to visit, and a good place to eat.
