Achieved outcomes and learned lessons of project CD_JEP By Sulaymon L. Eshkabilov, PhD

Presentation of NC_CAD/CAE/CAM - CD_JEP  Project partners  Project objectives  Project outcomes  Current activities  Learned lessons or conclusions

Project partners Project partners:  KTH – Grant holder - SWEDEN  TARI – coordinator - Uzbekistan  Polito - Italy  JizPI - Uzbekistan  UzAUTOYOL concern - Uzbekistan  Uzautosanoat ass. - Uzbekistan

Project objectives  New curriculum in CAD/CAE/CAM and computer modeling  To prepare new generation of engineers  Establish CAD/CAE Lab in TARI and JizPI  Enhance cooperation between industry and university

New curriculum in CAD/CAE/CAM and computer modeling 12 engineering courses fully developed with all teaching materials: 1.Math modeling 2.Numerical analyses 3.Engineering vibrations 4.Vibration Dynamics and Control 5.Mechatronics 6.Bond Graphs (for Mechatronic systems) 7.CAD/CAE essentials 8.Advanced CAE modeling techniques 9.Numerical solutions for engineering problems and designs 10.Control applications 11.Programming tools for engineers 12.DFM/DFA or project in solving complex engineering problems

Engineers with decent skills  12 students are selected through 7-9 month long 3 step selection process  Studying all courses in English with some supplementary help in Uzbek  English courses already for 20 months  11 professors from KTH and Polito have taught intensive courses from one week to three weeks long

Computer modeling and Dynamics & Control Labs

CAD/CAE, and Dynamics & Control labs  CAD/CAE Lab at JizPI  Computer Modeling Lab at TARI  Dynamics & Control Lab at TARI  Hardware installed in our lab’s: 35 decent PCs, 3 servers with backups/UPSs, control hardware + software packages from NI, CAD/CAE software from UGS, MS, printers, projectors, wifi network peripherals, etc.

Links with local industry  How to define a term “industry”?  SamAUTO factory  AutoYOL concern

Current activities  Wrap up all courses and teaching materials  Prepare enough hard and e-copies of all curriculum and training materials  Prepare student files for student mobility at KTH or Polito in Spring semester for up to 3 mo’s  Last exchange/training mobility visits for Uzbek teachers from 3 weeks up to 10 weeks long period  Dissemination actions  More work with industry engineers in R&D works  3 books are expected to finish by Spring of

Some figures  In total of 28 professors, lecturers and administrative staff are involved from 4 universities  3 training courses developed for university faculty and engineers: CAD/CAE with I-DEAS 12.0, CAD/CAE with Solid Edge 20.0, MATLAB x, MAPLE x, MS Excel x for engineers and researchers  Trainings and workshops for 45 faculty members from JizPI and TARI in 3 courses  5 seminars (Auto industry, Math. Modeling, CAD/CAE/CAM systems, etc) arranged for 30 faculty members and administrative staff from TARI and JizPI

Lessons learned or conclusions 1.Clear plans and ideas to be set and reviewed. 2.Finding very motivated people with a strong will to learn and gain new skills. 3.Establishing long term and perspective coop links with local industry. 4.Encouragement and Motivation. Focusing a lot on students and recruited staff. 5.Language courses are must. E.g. our wins and losses. 6.Fast decision making and independently taking actions. Task and power sharing/distribution amongst project partners. 7.People make a change and difference in the society not hardware or dummy computers or etc. Technology itself is not everything, it is all about skills that people have or have gained or will gain and finally use. E.g. labs vs. our staff.
