Después del Examen 1. Look over notes in the book in the box called Verbs with Reflexive Pronouns. 2. Read the notes from this powerpoint. 3. Complete exercises 8 and 9 on page Complete HW. WB pages activities 11, 12, and 13.

Reflexive verbs are conjugated just like any other –ar, -er, or –ir verb. They are called reflexive verbs because they are used with reflexive pronouns ( myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, themselves). (me, te, se, nos, os, se)

A verb is reflexive if the person doing the action, also receives the action. I’m looking at you. (Not reflexive) Yo te miro. I’m looking, you’re receiving the action. I’m looking at myself. ( reflexive) Yo me miro. I’m looking AND receiving the action. I’m feeding the dog. ( NOT reflexive) I’m feeding myself. ( Reflexive )

Many verbs that are NOT reflexive in English ARE reflexive in Spanish. Lavarse – to wash oneself peinarse- to comb oneself bañarse- to bathe oneself ducharse- to shower oneself dormirse- to put oneself to sleep {fall asleep} cepillarse – to brush oneself etc.

Me lavo las manos. ( Reflexive in Spanish—I wash myself the hands) I’m washing my hands. ( not reflexive in English.)
