Final 100 Atomic Structure Bonding / Reactions Organic Compounds / Macromolecules Water Properties pH Scale / Enzymes

The type of ion formed when an atom loses electrons.

What is a cation.

The three subatomic particles that make up atoms.

What are protons, neutrons, and electrons?

A nucleus contains these.

What are protons and neutrons?

Atomic Number = 82 Mass Number = 208 Number of Neutrons = ?

What is 126?

An atom has 11 protons and 12 neutrons, the atomic number is

What is 11?

2H 2 O 2 → 2H 2 O + O 2 The Products?

What are Water and Oxygen

Type of bonding that shares electrons.

What is covalent?

DAILY DOUBLE

The difference between covalent and ionic bonding.

What is one shares and the other transfers electrons?

The type of bond between the hydrogens and oxygen in water.

What is covalent (polar covalent)?

The type of bond found between neighboring water molecules.

What are hydrogen bonds?

Monosaccharide is an example.

What is a carbohydrate?

The main source of energy for living things.

What are carbohydrates?

Made by two monosaccharides joining together by dehydration synthesis.

What is a disaccharide?

The factor that distinguishes organic compounds from inorganic compounds.

What is carbon?

A five-carbon sugar, nitrogenous base, and phosphate group.

What is a nucleotide?

Reason why ice floats on water.

What is ice is less dense?

When salt is dissolved in water, water is the…

What is solvent?

The tendency of water molecules to stick together.

What is cohesion?

The tendency of water molecules to stick to other surfaces.

What is adhesion?

The mechanism by which water moves upward in plants.

What is transpiration?

A solution that contains a H+ ion concentration lower than pure water.

What is a base?

A solution that contains more H+ ions than OH- ions.

What is an acid?

How enzymes affect reactions in cells.

What is change the reaction rate (speed up the reaction).

Substrate binding slightly changes the shape of the enzyme.

What is the induced fit model of enzyme function?

How enzymes speed up chemical reactions.

What is reduce the activation energy?

After an enzyme is mixed with its substrate, the amount of product formed is determined at 10-second intervals for 1 minute. Data from this experiment are shown below. What is the rate of this enzymatic reaction after 30 seconds? Time (s) Product Formed (mg)

What is mg/s? (0.70 mg divided by 39 s = mg/s)
