PIONIER network

Hierarchical two-level content distribution system CDS structure

content distribution and delivery –live, VOD, nVOD –content replication, migration and removal request routing –allows to direct users to best proxy/cache servers –supports load balancing –authentication and authorisation monitoring –system load and status –critical events identification and logging –parameters: CPU load, free memory, network interfaces load, discs load and free space, –active distribution and delivery transactions CDS core functions (1)

reporting –active and passive data gathering –provides reports on system usage and errors system management –system configuration –servers management –startup/shutdown options –available through management portal CDS core functions (2)

Microsoft Windows 2003 Server Windows Media Services.NET Framework.NET Remoting ASP.NET WebServices Microsoft Message Queue CDS technology overview

Features: based on IP network component-based architecture independent from broadband access network technology & operator supports many content providers supports end-to-end multimedia delivery chain worldwide cooperation possible (Poland, GEANT, Abiliene, …) provides environment for scalable high-quality multimedia services deployment Design issues: scalability & availability security authentication and authorization support for different distribution modes easy integration with other platform components CDS summary
