2 iTVP Platform motivations Create environment for interactive TV over IP Deliver high quality multimedia content to large number of users Provide value-added services Enable seamless content protection and control Assure content security and high availability of the service Enable content providers to serve the content and provide them with tools for digital content management Support users in searching the content and access the repositories Enhance education through dedicated applications

4 iTVP Platform features interfaces for many content providers interfaces for many interactive portals multiple access channels (PC, PocketPC, SetTopBox, …) interactive player for enhanced content authentication, authorisation and accounting digital rights management support for interactive applications content lifecycle management metadata based on MPEG-7 proprietary optional MPEG-4 AVC codecs WindowsMedia and RealMedia now supported 750 kb/s - 1,5 Mb/s streams

6 Content Delivery System two-level hierarchical efficient content delivery: Regional Data Centers proxy/cache servers scalable and reliable system architecture many content distribution scenarios (VOD, NVOD, live, …) open for any streaming technology (currently WindowsMedia and RealMedia supported)

7 Content Delivery System features optimized request routing and load-balancing user access policy control: dedicated high quality transmission for users serviced by the last-mile operators connected to the platform public webcasts content invalidation through platform metadata managed by the content providers buffering for timeshifted access to the live stream at the proxy/cache secured access control to the platform services continuous monitoring and reporting

11 The protype Content providers: –TVP S.A. (and local ) –Polish Radio and other radio stations –... Content Delivery System: –1 Gb/s dedicated links among RDC in PIONIER network –30 proxy/cache servers connected with 100-400 Mb/s links –aggregated cache volume : RDC: 7 TB (~ 10 000 hours) proxy/cache: 600 GB - 1,4 TB (~ 2000 hours) –at least 15 000 users connected Cooperation with: –Metropolitan Area Networks –Universities and schools –Last mile operators and ISPs
