Preservation study: UVC  Raymond Lorie, IBM Almaden USA  Save the image / page by page  Save the textual information  presentation elements  the information about fields  the bookmarks with their text, structure, etc.  A program on a UVC  extracts the data elements from the original bit stream  returns them as the logical view (tag + value)

Present situation  1 October 2002: delivery & acceptance of deposit system  12 December: Official opening of deposit system and presentation of 6 LTP research reports by IBM/KB  13 december: International Workshop on Digital Preservation, KB, The Hague

What’s next?  Development of the preservation functionality  MOU with IBM for further research & development (step by step):  First version of subsystem for preservation  Operational UVC support for PDF  EOI FP6  FP6 Project proposal ?  Knowledge transfer to new staff
