Introduction The Hanging Gardens of Babylon were considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Were built in the sixth century C. during the reign of Nebuchadnezzar II

The legend of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon One of the ancient Seven Wonders of the world are called Hanging Gardens of Babylon. The city of Babylon, located in Mesopotamia, along the Euphrates River in modern Iraq. Localization

History Legend has it that the king wanted to pay tribute to his wife, making a gift to show his love for her. The gardens were built in the city carrying large rocks, which unlike the bricks used in construction at the time, were more resistant to moisture. They sat forming terraces, where he placed the necessary land and began planting trees, shrubs, plants and flowers

Garden's Decadence With the fall of Babylon, the gardens were abandoned. When Alexander came to town in the fourth century BC, the gardens were already partially ruined and totally abandoned. Finally, the gardens were destroyed by King Euhemerus in the year 125 BC

Characteristics *The Greek geographer Strabo, who described the gardens in first century BC, wrote, "It consists of vaulted terraces raised one above another, and resting upon cube-shaped pillars. These are hollow and filled with earth to allow trees of the largest size to be planted. The pillars, the vaults, and terraces are constructed of baked brick and asphalt." *The gardens were located next to the royal palace. Right next to the river, and the people could see it. *In the highest part of the garden was the water. *The Gardens of Babylon were built with large stones.
