HIS STATUE. A picture of his statue, outside of Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy.

SOME OF HIS ARTWORK. St George Mary Magdalene John the Evangelist

INFORMATION In 1409–1411 he executed the figure of Saint John the Evangelist. He was born in the year 1386, and died in 1466 (Eighty Years old). Between 1415 and 1426, Donatello created five real life sized statues. Before he was 20, he was receiving commissions for his work. Over his career he developed a style of lifelike sculptures and a reputation second only to Michelangelo's.

WHY HE WAS IMPORTANT TO THE RENAISSANCE He was important to the Renaissance because of his styles in painting and sculpture he helped influence and inspire other artists. He is perhaps best known for what is called 'bas-relief' sculpture, where the form of the sculpture includes a flat surface. Many of Donatello's statues and paintings can be displayed in Italian churches.

BAS RELIEF Bas relief is a sculpture technique in which figures or other design elements are just barely more prominent than the (overall flat) background. Bas relief is created either by carving away material (wood, stone, jade, etc.) or adding material to the top of an otherwise smooth surface (say, strips of clay to stone). Example

HOW HE IMPACTS LIFE TODAY He was one of the first people to make life like sculptures, In which today a lot of statues for important people who died were made like the ones he did, so his impact was spreading all of his artwork to the people, having it being used to this day. Great thing’s were made in art, especially perspective, techniques of painting (Especially Oil Painting’s).
