English 10 Honors Day 34 Objective To demonstrate understanding of tragic hero through creation of (fictional) tragedy Find your new seats, please!

Practice ECA  Grade the practice ECA test you took last class.  Multiple choice questions are worth 1 point; short answers are worth 2 points.  This should give you an idea of your ECA score.  ECA testing dates are April 28, 29, & 30  One day is a multiple choice and short answer test, and one day is a timed writing.

Tragic Hero  Review your notes about Hamlet from the last class, as well as consider your understanding of Brutus and Caesar in Julius Caesar.  What makes a tragic hero?  Why is it possible, and effective, to have a tragic hero who is flawed as a story’s protagonist?

Create Your Own Tragic Hero  Create your own tragic hero by filling out the basic elements of him/her on the sheet provided.  You can make a modern tragic hero or a tragic hero from a society in the past.  Then, create an image to represent your tragic hero. (This can be a portrait or something symbolic.)

Create Your Own (Fictional) Tragedy  On your own paper, write a short narrative that tells your hero’s story.  Be sure all of the elements on your worksheet are represented through the character’s actions.  Don’t just state “Charlie had great qualities like his love for puppies; however, his greatest flaw was his weakness for chocolate.” Show me those traits through Charlie’s actions.
