Ancient Greek Art, Architecture, and Writing Doric: This style is very sturdy and has a plain top. The Doric was used in mainland Greece and in parts of Italy and Sicily. Architecture: Ionic This style is thin, elegant, and has a top that looks like a ram’s horns. These were found in eastern Greece and on the islands. Corinthian The Corinthian style was not found as much in the Greek world, but in Roman temples. The top is very fancy and decorated with leaves.

Ancient Greek Art, Architecture, and Writing (cont.) Art: Korai and Kouros statues were an important part of Greek art. These works of art were very detailed for their time period.

Ancient Greek Art, Architecture, and Writing (cont.) Writing: The Greeks traded with the Phoenicians and saw them writing things down. The Greeks thought this way of communicating was very clever and useful. Once the Greeks had a language they started writing fables, myths, and legends.

Apollo: god of the sun, light, medicine, and music Ares: dark god of war Artemis: goddess of the hunt, forest, wildlife, and moon Athena: Daughter of Zeus and goddess of wisdom, war, and crafts Demeter: goddess of agriculture. Trojan War Basically, the whole beginning of the war started because Helen and Paris fell in love. They then eloped and were on their way to Troy. The problem was that Helen was already married to Menelaus, king of Sparta. When Menelaus found out he was very angry. He then asked his brother, Agamemnon, to help get Helen back from Troy. After all this, the war began. Throughout the journey, the gods did their justice. The war raged on and lasted for over 10 years. When the time had come, the Trojans were very happy because they thought the armies had left. Unfortunately, that was not the case. At night, the armies came out and attacked the Trojans. To end it all, the Greeks burnt down the city of Troy.

Famous Heroes Hercules: beat the odds time and again, performed amazing, often helpful tasks Achilles: The Greek’s best warrior in the Trojan War Theseus: the hero of Athens Odysseus : the hero of Greece who came up with the Trojan Horse

Famous Monsters Argus: as many as one-hundred eyes Cyclopes: were gigantic and had a single eye in the middle of their forehead Cerberus: huge, powerful three-headed dog Hydra: massive, poisonous serpent with nine heads
