1 Greek Culture Quest By: Evan Murray

3 Greek Gods Zeus- King of the Gods and married to Hera. He was thought to have control over storms and lightning. Hera- Queen of the Gods and wife of Zeus. She was god of family and childbirth and was represented as a peacock. Apollo- God of music and medicine. It was said he caused the sun to rise every day.

4 Greek Gods (cont.) Hermes- Messenger of the gods. Was known for his trickery. Athena- Goddess of architecture and strategy. Her sign was an owl. Patron goddess of Athens. Artemes- Goddess of the hunt and wilderness. Hades- King of the underworld and death.

5 Greek Gods (cont.) Poseidon- God of the sea and earthquakes.
Ares- God of war and fighting. Aphrodite- goddess of beauty and love. She is represented by a dove. Hephaestus- God of the forge and fire. He was said to be ugly. Dionysus- God of parties, drunkenness, and wine.

6 Trojan War The Trojan war was between the city of Troy and the Greeks.
It was started after the king of Troy took the Greek king’s wife, Helen. Troy was also charging a fee for sailing in the channel next to Troy which was a major shipping lane.

7 End of the Trojan war The Trojan war was said to have ended when a giant wooden horse was brought inside the city which held a few soldiers who then opened the city gates and let the rest of the army in the city.

8 Greek Heroes Heracles- Son of Zeus. Completed 12 tasks that included killing many famous monsters. Jason and the Argonauts- went on a quest to find the golden fleece Odysseus- Hero from the Trojan war. Favored by Athena Perseus- Killed Medusa one of the Gorgons

9 Greek Monsters Minotaur- Monster inside the famous labyrinth
Hydra- Monster killed by Hercules. It would grow back two heads where one was cut off. Gorgon- Once three beautiful sisters, Aphrodite grew jealous of them and turned them into ugly snake ladies.
