Lesson 2-7 Square Roots and Real Numbers

Definitions: Square Root- one of two equal factors of a number. Perfect Square- A number, like 64, whose square root is a rational number. Radical Sign- used to indicate a nonnegative or principal square root of the expression under the radical sign. Principal Square Root- a nonnegative square root of a number.

Find each square root.

Types of Numbers: Real Numbers - The set of rational numbers and set of irrational numbers together. Natural Numbers- The set of numbers starting at 1,2,3… Integers- The set of natural numbers, and their opposites, including zero. …-2, -1, 0, 1, 2, … Rational Numbers - The set of numbers expressed in the form of a fractions, where a and b are integers and b  0.

Irrational Numbers-

Name the set or sets of numbers to which each real number belongs.

Graph each solution set.

Replace each ___ with, or = to make each sentence true.
