Why not? 4.Is there any subject you wish we had covered or spent more time on? 5.If you could give student who were about to start this course some advice about how to be successful in this class, what would you tell them? Is there anything you wish you had known at the beginning?

PLO Survey PLO stands for Program Learning Outcome This is a short survey that is meant to evaluate whether or not the English Department is being successful in its efforts to teach key concepts to students. If at all possible, do this in class now. Use your phones, laptops, or tablets. If you don’t have a device that connects to the internet, ask neighbor when they are done OR *carefully* write down this address and do it when you get home. Password: I also ed this link to all of you. If you have access to your , go access it and click the link

Final Exam: The format for our final exam be identical to the WPE (Writing Proficiency Exam) administered by CSUN and other State Universities. The exam will be a short reading on a topic, followed by a writing prompt. You will not be allowed to read the short reading and prompt before the exam. Learning to read and then immediately respond is an important skill to develop for writing proficiency exams and entrance exams. However, I will tell you what the topic is and invite you to do some general reading/research on the topic so that you have informed opinions on the subject going in. The topic is “Credit Card Debt in America”

Why is In-Class Writing Important? Writing in-class is a skill that will serve you well as you take other college classes. Professors in these classes may use in-class writing to measure what you have learned, and they will expect that you already know how to write and organize an essay. In-class writing requires you to do these things: Show that you understand the topic that you are writing about. This includes concepts/ideas as well as facts. Present your thoughts on the topic and make a point about the topic in a unified, organized way in a short amount of time.

In-Class Writing Tips Step 1: Read the prompt carefully. Underline key words. Figure out what kind of response the question is looking for. Make sure you give the correct type of response. Step 2: Plan. Writing down ideas/things to cover may help you to remember them later. Don't spend too much time on this step (no more than a minute or two), but write down your thesis (Your main idea) somewhere in your outline. Also include main ideas and a several supporting ideas/phrases for each body paragraph.

In-Class Writing Tips, continued Step 3: Write. Make sure that you are following any special directions like using pen/pencil or skipping lines. Pace yourself. Keep an eye on the clock and don’t allow any one section to take too much of your time. Spend the most time on the body of your essay, not introducing or planning or writing your conclusion. Make sure that each paragraph has a good topic sentence that will help keep you on track for that paragraph. Step 4: Check Yourself. If you have time left over, take the opportunity to go back and look for grammar and spelling errors, or for places where you might need to add clarification. Also, remember to write legibly.

Final Exam: Vital Reminders! Final In-Class Exam – 3:00 to 5:00 – Tuesday, June 3 NOTE DIFFERENT TIME. DO NOT COME TO CLASS AT REGULAR TIME. NO ONE WILL BE HERE. ANOTHER FINAL WILL BE IN PROGRESS. COME AT 3:00. Do not be late. Exam begins at 3:00PM promptly. If you are using the late contract for the Research Paper, it is DUE, printed, stapled, and on my desk at 3:00PM before you begin your final exam. Also due before you begin Final Exam: Your Extra Credit assignment WHAT TO BRING: An blank Exam book (green or blue) Large/regular size please. No tiny ones. A pen or pens

A Few Last Words: I will see you on the day of the Final! It has been an honor being your instructor. I hope you feel you have learned a lot in this class and gained valuable experience.
