Genre: Created by Kathy Cassidy, Westside

An autobiography is the story of a real person’s life that is written by that person. I’m going to write about me keeping peace in a time of war.

A biography tells the story of a real person but is written by someone else. I’m going to write about Gertrude Ederle.

A fantasy is a story in which unbelievable things happen, like talking animals, or magical powers.

An animal fantasy is a story with animal characters that behave like people.

A fable is a story that teaches a lesson, or moral, featuring animals, plants, or inanimate objects that are given human qualities.

A story, often with a message, that was initially passed on by word of mouth.

A verse written to inspire thought.

A fictional story with real and invented characters that takes place during a historical time.

A suspenseful story about a puzzling event that is not solved until the end of the story.

The information is presented as facts by the author. (This does not mean that it is a fact)

Gives information and facts about the real world.

A play uses a cast of characters.

Realistic Fiction is a made up story that could really happen. The settings and characters can seem to be real.

Fiction sometimes tells a story based on events that really happened.

A story that blends futuristic technology with scientific fact and fiction.
