SOCCER THE BEST SPORT IN THE WORLD BY: JESSICA O’KEEFE

What is soccer? Soccer is a sport played all over the world. The objective of the game is to kick a ball into a net. It’s not as easy as it sounds. It’s pretty complicated. There is a whole bunch of rules have to follow, positions you have to play, and much more things that make this sport a lot more challenging then it sounds.

What is a referee? A ref is the person who determines if or if not a play is legal or illegal. The ref has an important job. They makes sure the players play by the rules. They have to call plays including off sides, foul plays, penalties, handballs, and much more.

Forward Halfback Defense Goalie

A forward is the attacker. They start out in the first or second half and when ever the other team gets a goal. They pay an important role on the team. They have to be able to attack the goal, move the ball up, keep from getting off sides, and much more.

Halfbacks are the players who move the ball up for the forwards to shoot on the goal. Halfbacks also can also go up to the goal and shoot. Halfbacks also have to go back and help the defense. Halfbacks have to be able to play the whole field. In order to do this they must run a lot.

Defensemen are the players that protect their side of the field from the opposing team. They try their best to keep the ball on the other side of their field. They try to make it so the goalie doesn’t even have to pick it up. They have to have a big foot to kick it all the way back to the other half of the field. A defensemen tries to defend his side of the field.

The goalkeeper or goalie keeps the ball from going into the net. They are the only player on the field that is allowed to use their hands. Goalies have a special box that they are only aloud to use their hands in. If they use their hands outside of the box it will result in a penalty. A goalie dives to save a goal.
