WHY CREATE A CULTURAL PLAN FOR WHITE ROCK?

WHITE ROCK’S CULTURAL PLANNING TO DATE Synopsis for the City of White Rock Arts and Culture Mapping Project 2011 Arts Economic Task Force produce Arts Economic Strategy

CULTURAL STRATEGIC PLAN PROGRESS REPORT Vision Statement White Rock is a vibrant community that provides diverse artistic and cultural experiences, supports artists of all disciplines and is a year round destination for cultural tourism.

DRAFT STRATEGIC GOALS GOAL #1: ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT THROUGH THE ARTS GROW THE CREATIVE ECONOMY AND CULTURE LED ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT GOAL #2: EXPAND PARTNERSHIPS AND CIVIC RESPONSIBILITY BROADEN THE CITY’S LEADERSHIP IN ARTS AND CULTURE, MAXIMIZE PARTNERSHIPS AND FOSTER COLLABORATION BETWEEN THE CREATIVE SECTOR AND BUSINESSES. GOAL #3: INCREASE AND RENEW PUBLIC SPACES REVITALIZE UPTOWN, ANIMATE STREETS, ENLIVEN PUBLIC SPACES AND INCREASE THE NUMBER OF ARTS AND CULTURAL FACILITIES.

DRAFT STRATEGIC GOALS GOAL #4: DEVELOP DIVERSE ARTS PROGRAMS AND FESTIVALS SUPPORT WHITE ROCK’S SPIRIT OF CELEBRATION BY BROADENING THE RANGE OF ARTS EXPERIENCES, OPPORTUNITIES AND FESTIVALS. GOAL #5: PROMOTION OF ARTS AND CULTURE STRENGHTEN PROMOTIONAL ACTIVITIES AND RAISE VISIBILITY TO INCREASE COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION, ENGAGEMENT AND AWARENESS OF ARTS AND CULTURE.

NEXT STEPS  Conduct a workshop with stakeholders to create measurable actions  Identify the lead for all measurable actions  Draft Cultural Strategic Plan presented to community stakeholders for review  Present Draft Cultural Strategic Plan to Council for endorsement and funding  CATF to ensure the action items are delivered
