IEEE Std revision P802.3REV includes merge of: –IEEE Std (minus Link Aggregation) –Approved amendments 802.3an, 802.3aq, 802.3as –Unapproved amendment 802.3ap (on RevCom agenda) –Approved Corrigendum 1 –Unapproved Corrigendum 2 (requesting initial Sponsor ballot) –Maintenance #9 (changes approved for ballot P802.1AX Link Aggregation –New standard –Extract clause 43 from IEEE Std and supporting material PARs are co-dependent

802.3 revision – WG motion MOTION #2 IEEE approves the PAR for IEEE P802.3REV Maintenance #9 (Revision) as modified, and IEEE 802.1AX Link Aggregation PAR as presented. IEEE requests the IEEE 802 LMSC Executive Committee to submit the IEEE P802.3REV and IEEE 802.1AX to NesCom. Tech 75% Y: 70 N:0 A: 5 MOTION PASSES Date: 15-Mar :07PM

P802.1AX to NesCom Motion: The LMSC Executive committee approves the P802.1AX PAR staying on the March NesCom agenda M: Bob Grow S: Pat Thaler

P802.3REV to NesCom Motion: The LMSC Executive committee approves the P802.3REV PAR, as amended per “Scope” statement on next slide, staying on the March NesCom agenda M: Bob Grow S: Pat Thaler

P802.3REV to NesCom (Amendment & Reconsideration) Motion: The LMSC Executive committee approves the P802.3REV PAR, as amended per “Scope” statement on next slide, staying on the March NesCom agenda Amendment M: Bob Grow S: Arnie Greenspan

Scope This standard defines Ethernet local area, access and metropolitan area networks. Ethernet is specified at selected speeds of operation; and uses a common media access control (MAC) specification and management information base (MIB). The Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection (CSMA/CD) MAC protocol specifies shared medium (half duplex) operation, as well as full duplex operation. Speed specific Media Independent Interfaces (MIIs) provide an architectural and optional implementation interface to selected physical layer entities (PHY) interfaces. The physical layer encodes frames for transmission and decodes received frames with the modulation specified for the speed of operation, transmission medium and supported link length. In addition to the local area network applicatoins, Other specified capabilities include: PHY control and management protocols types for access networks, PHYs suitable for metropolitan area network applications, and the provision of power over selected twisted pair PHY types.

P /Cor 2 content

P /Cor 2 WG ballot passed with no negatives –13 comments, most out of scope –Commenters willing to raise out of scope issues in P802.3REV. WG authorized Sponsor ballot WG authorized RevCom submittal without further WG vote

802.3/Cor2 WG Motion Request that IEEE requests that the EC forward IEEE P /Cor 2 D2.0 to Sponsor ballot. The result of the above is that the IEEE Working Group chair will request EC approval for submission of IEEE P /Cor 2 to the RevCom conditional upon successful completion of the initial Sponsor ballot (not seeking separate WG approval for RevCom submittal is felt appropriate for expedited processing of a Corrigenda). Request that IEEE authorises the IEEE 802.3aw Task Force to conduct meetings and recirculation ballots as necessary to resolve comments received during Sponsor Balloting. Tech 75% Y:59 N:0 A:3 MOTION PASSES, Date: 15-Mar :43PM

P /Cor 2 to Sponsor ballot Motion: The LMSC approves P /Cor 2 for Sponsor ballot. M: Bob Grow S: Pat Thaler

P /Cor 2 to RevCom Motion: The LMSC approves submittal of P /Cor 2 to RevCom for June consideration if initial ballot is successful, and subject to an EC 10- day electronic ballot to leave on the June RevCom agenda. M: Bob Grow S: Pat Thaler

Higher Speed SG progress Begun selecting objectives –Strong consensus supporting 100 Gb/s data rate –Disagreement on including 40 Gb/s data rate –Support for multiple link reach objectives Multi-mode fiber 100m reach Single-mode fiber 10km reach Single-mode fiber 40km reach Interims scheduled for April and May Extension approved by WG

Higher Speed SG extension Motion (if removed from consent agenda) : The LMSC approves extension of the Higher Speed Study Group.

Energy Efficient Ethernet SG progress Begun selecting objectives –Strong consensus to specify speed change to reduce energy consumption Not as easy as we would wish May require some retraining for GbE and 10GbE DSP Variability of cable channel over time is significant challenge –Interest in supporting wake-up from Standby power management state (almost no power consumption) –Support for including Backplane Ethernet PHY types Interims scheduled for April (tentative) and May Extension approved by WG

Energy Efficient Ethernet SG extension Motion (if removed from consent agenda) : The LMSC approves extension of the Energy Efficient Ethernet Study Group.

DT – 802 TF schedule Would more EC members participate in the 802 Task Force if its schedule were consistent. (This might allow WG commitments to be scheduled to allow better attendance.)

DT – IEEE-SA process Most IEEE-SA process changes will be implemented in myProject –Interest area identification of participants –Voting membership list –Per project affiliation declaration There have been complaints about some changes or their implementation –myProject Information will not be shared with other parts of IEEE – IEEE-SA privacy policy stating this is coming –IEEE-SA recognizes they must balance adminsitrivia benefits and protections with standards participant’s tolerance I’m available to help any of you understand the plan –There will be a series of changes during this year –Concerns from participants are being considered
