PA Dutch 101 Video 27: Separable Prefix Verbs. Verbs die net zamme bleiwe.

Separable Prefix Verbs Some verbs in PD can be combined with prefixes which in turn change their meaning: kumme – to come aakumme – to arrive In present tense usage, the prefix will separate from the verb and move to the end of the sentence or question: Subject – Verb – other stuff – Prefix. Verb – Subject – other stuff- Prefix?

Separable Prefix Verbs Lets use aakumme as an example. The train is arriving at 2 oclock: Der Draen kummt um 2 Uhr aa. Lets turn that sentence into a question: Kummt der Draen um 2 Uhr aa?

Separable Prefix Verbs As covered in Video 20, when a Modal is used in a sentence, the verb is forced to the end of the sentence. This rule applies with Sep. Prefix Verbs. When this happens, the verb does not split apart: Der Draen soll um 2 Uhr aakumme. This also happens in the Future Tense (Video 23): Der Draen waerd um 2 Uhr aakumme.

Separable Prefix Verbs Here is a short list of separable prefix verbs: aa/hawwe – to have on datthie/gehe – to go there her/kumme – to come here ei/kaafe – to shop mit/bringe – to bring with aus/gewwe – to spend

Separable Prefix Verbs mit/kumme – to come with, along ei/laade – to invite aa/kumme – to arrive aus/mache – to decide, to plan aa/fange – to start uff/basse – to pay attention

Iewing - Practice Der Bill / mitkumme / zu der Party. Der Bill kummt zu der Party mit. Ich / aahawwe / en neies Hemm. Ich hab en neies Hemm aa. Eilaade / du / der Sam / zum Danksfescht? Laadscht du der Sam zum Danksfescht ei?
