I. Identifying Watashi wa gakusei desu. I am a student. Watashi wa gakusei ja arimasen. I am not a student.

II. Hai/Ee & Iie [Suzuki-san; he is a student] Q:Suzuki-san desu ka? A: Hai, soo desu. Q: Suzuki-san wa gakusei desu ka? A: Ee, soo desu. [Tanaka-san; he is not a student] Q: Suzuki-san desu ka? Iie, soo ja arimasen. Tanaka-san wa gakusei desu ka? Iie, soo ja arimasen.

The Particle No Tanaka-san wa Biranoba daigaku no gakusei desu. Tanaka-san is a student at Villanova. Watashi no tomodachi wa ryuugakusei desu. My friend is an exchange student.

What is your name? Onamae wa nan desu ka? [Tanaka-san] Tanaka desu. Nan nensei desu ka? [a junior] San’nensei desu. Doko kara kimashita ka? [Japan] Nihon kara kimashita.

The Particles Mo & To Yamada-san no tomodachi mo daigakusei desu. Yamada-san’s friend is also a college student. Yamada-san to Yamada-san no tomodachi wa daigakusei desu. Yamada-san and Yamada-san’s friend are college students.
