Lemelson’s MIT Program, Craven Walker, September 19, Craven Walker invented the Lava Lamp.

Invention: Lava Lamp After 20 minutes of the lamp on the lava begins to heat and expand. When cold, with the lamp turned off, the lava inside is a hard mass at the bottom of the glass container. As it cools from a heat source, it begins to fall. This repeats over and over, creating a constant changing scene of waves of color moving up and down inside the glass.

Inventor: Craven Walker Walker was born in Singapore on July 4,1918. He established the UK’s most well-known nudist colony, the District Naturist Center. He was inspired to make the lamp when he saw an egg timer in England. He began marketing the lamp in Europe in 1963, with the name of Astro Lamp Walker patented his own design in England in Walker died at the age 82 in England on August 15,2000.
