Most of the transportation takes place in the capital of Maputo and the city of Beira.

The Iron House Praca dos Trabalhadores The house is made completely out of steel and was originally going to be the governor’s house. This statue is in the square to pay tribute to the fallen soldiers of Mozambique’s First World War. Diving You can try diving in the Inhambane area where some of the most immaculate reefs are, and you might end up swimming with whales, sting rays, or even sharks. Bird Watching Bird watching is very popular on Inhaca Island, because of the over 200 species of birds that live on the island.

Jardim Tunduru Botanical Gardens Museu da Moeda (Money Museum) Housed inside this yellow building are exhibits displaying local currency from a long time ago all the way up to now. These gardens are right behind the Statue of Samora Machel, and were made by an Englishmen who made many well-known gardens of his time.

This is made up of Xima (SHE – mah), which is like a flavorless version of mashed potatoes. On the Xima is a sauce which is made of mashed up cassava leaves combined with peanut flour and coconut milk. Also some people like to put fish and crab meat with it.

Matapas It is mostly located in the south of Mozambique, but Matapas can be found all over the country.

 There are three horizontal bands of color consisting of green on the top, black in the middle, and yellow on the bottom of the flag. The flag also has a red triangle with a yellow star in it on the side. The star has a rifle and garden hose crossed on an open book in the center of it. The color green stands for the wealth of the country’s land, white represents peace, the black stands for the African continent, yellow represents Mozambique’s minerals, and red is the country’s effort for their independence. The rifle stands for the country’s defense, the hose symbolizes Mozambique’s agriculture, the book symbolizes the need for education, and the star stands for the country’s international pride.

Life Expectancy The average person in Mozambique will live years. Males living to be 51 years old, and females living to be about 53 years old. Natural Hazards In Mozambique there are many serious droughts that occur and also cyclones and floods that are very severe.

Largest Ethnic Group African is the largest ethnic group in Mozambique making up 99.66% of the country. The ethnic group African consists of many African tribes including Makhuwa, Sena, Lomwe, Tsonga, etc. Major Religion Catholic is the main religion consisting of 23.8% of the country. However the Muslim, Zionist Christian, and other religions follow closely behind the Catholic faith.

Climate Setting/Location The climate in Mozambique is typically tropical to subtropical. Mozambique is located in Southeastern Africa and is in between the countries of Tanzania and South Africa. The country borders the Mozambique channel.
