6. For instance, here is the United States flag
For instance, here is the United States flag. When our country first declared its independence, there were 13 states.  That's why the U.S. flag has 13 red and white stripes.

7. Now there are 50 states and that is why there are 50 stars on the blue part of the flag.

This is the flag for the country of Brazil. The green background stands for the many jungles in Brazil.  Each star stands for each of the states in Brazil.
