World Consumption Patterns Project By Callie Barnas

Questions 1. What country has the largest column? What are the reasons that you think that this country has the highest amount? 2. The country with the largest column is the United States. I think this is because we are a developed county and use computers for schools and businesses. People also use the internet for social networking. 3. What country has the smallest/lowest? What reasons would cause this country to have a low amount? 4. The country with the smallest column is Argentina. Maybe this is because this isn't a developed country and they don’t use computers for most businesses and can’t afford to use them in schools. 5. Look at the 5 th and 6 th ranked countries. Are they developed, developing, or one of each? Why do you think that they are where they are in the rankings? Use data to help you answer the question. 6. The 5 th and 6 th rank countries are Mexico and Canada. Mexico is developing and Canada is Developed. Canada doesn't have that many people, so that’s probably why it doesn’t have that many internet users. Since Mexico is a developing country, the people that live there don’t have frequent access to computers. 7. Look at the 7 th and 8 th ranked countries. Are they developing countries? If so, what do they need to do in order to get to the top half of the rankings? Use data from any information to help you answer the question. 8. The 7 th and 8 th ranked countries are Argentina and Thailand. They are both developing countries. Maybe they should work on becoming developed countries, and improve their economy so people can afford to buy computers. 9. Name another country (other than the US) that stands out to you on the chart. Describe the country and what type of impact it has on world consumption. 10. One other country that stands out to me was Brazil, because it column was the 2 nd largest and I didn’t really expect it, because it’s a developing country. I don’t think it has that big of an impact on world consumption though, even though it has a lot of internet users.

Questions 1. What country has the largest column? What are the reasons that you think that this country has the highest amount? 2. The countries with the largest column are the U.S, the U.K, Canada, and France, all tied at 99%. I think this is because these countries are all developed and all kids go to school and learn how to read. 3. What country has the smallest/lowest? What reasons would cause this country to have a low amount? 4. The country with the lowest column is Egypt. This may be because this is a developing country a lot of children aren't able to get a proper education and learn how to read, and because some there are some jobs where you don’t have to be able to read to make money. 5. Look at the 5 th and 6 th ranked countries. Are they developed, developing, or one of each? Why do you think that they are where they are in the rankings? Use data to help you answer the question. 6. The 5 th and 6 th ranked countries are Thailand and Argentina. These are both developing countries. They could be there because there are some poorer areas in the country where some people aren't able to learn how to read Look at the 7 th and 8 th ranked countries. Are they developing countries? If so, what do they need to do in order to get to the top half of the rankings? Use data from any information to help you answer the question. 9. The 7 th and 8 th ranked countries are Mexico and Brazil, and they are both developing countries. In order to get to the top half of the ranking, they should try to provide a better schooling system in places that are more poor so people can get a better education and a better job. 10. Name another country (other than the US) that stands out to you on the chart. Describe the country and what type of impact it has on world consumption. 11. One other country that stood out to me on the map was Egypt. For some reason I had not expected it to have the smallest column. Maybe this was because it is a developing country, and has a small impact on world consumption.

Questions 1. What country has the largest column? What are the reasons that you think that this country has the highest amount? 2. The country with the largest column is the U.S, and I think because we have lots of uses for oil. We use it for fuel, and in manufacturing. 3. What country has the smallest/lowest? What reasons would cause this country to have a low amount? 4. The country with the lowest column is Argentina. This could be because this is a developing country and not as many people depend on cars to get around. 5. Look at the 5 th and 6 th ranked countries. Are they developed, developing, or one of each? Why do you think that they are where they are in the rankings? Use data to help you answer the question. 6. The 5 th and 6 th ranked countries are The U.K and France. These are both developed countries. They could be like this because they have a well organized public transit system, so not as many people use cars. This could also be because buildings are close together and people can walk everywhere. 7. Look at the 7 th and 8 th ranked countries. Are they developing countries? If so, what do they need to do in order to get to the top half of the rankings? Use data from any information to help you answer the question. 8. The 7 th and 8 th ranked countries are Thailand and Egypt, and they are both developing countries. To get to the top half of the ranking, they could create a public transportation system to get people around. 9. Name another country (other than the US) that stands out to you on the chart. Describe the country and what type of impact it has on world consumption. 10. One other country that stands out is the U.K. At first I was surprised because had expected it to be one of the very top ranking columns, but then I realized that they use buses and public transportation system a lot more than we do here. This probably has a positive effect on world consumption because they use up a lot less oil.
