What’s Next? Advanced Implementation Support Susan Pimentel of StandardsWork, Inc. U.S. Department of Education Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education April 1—2, 2014

Purpose Provide training and technical assistance to state teams working to implement CCR standards sustainably and at scale. 2

Advanced Implementation Support  When: Spring 2015 through 2016 (application in December 2014)  For whom: 12 state adult education teams (5 and 7 members each) with state and local program representation  Selection process: Through an application process and meeting certain criteria, such as: the ability to form a dedicated implementation team a commitment to apply what is learned the capacity to extend training to other programs and instructors in their home jurisdiction 3

Three Forms of CCR Support 1.Face-to-face national training workshops 2.Two coaches—one in each discipline—to assist each team in moving implementation forward 3.Ongoing technical assistance and onsite visits 4

Deeper Levels of Engagement With the Key Advances, Workshop I  Curriculum: Aligning adult education resources through application of CCR-specific rubrics and cross- team work and translating CCR standards into aligned lesson content and instructional practices.  Process: Team members learn how to use the tools and innovations, apply them in their programs, and then roll-out the training (with coach support) to others across the state. 5

Deeper Levels of Engagement With the Key Advances, Workshop II  Curriculum: Strengthening instructor assignments and student work and instituting content-specific observation protocols to target professional development.  Process: Team members learn how to use the tools and innovations, apply them in their programs, and then roll-out the training (with coach support) to others across the state. 6

Ongoing Technical Assistance and Site Visits  Coaches will work with state teams during and in between the national workshops to help teams respond to CCR implementation challenges as they arise.  Coaches will assist teams in how to best accomplish statewide implementation.  Coaches will participate in the planning and delivery of on-site trainings after each workshop to assist with the initial roll-out. 7

What Are Some of the Key Benefits?! Participating state teams will build their capacity to implement CCR standards through: 1.Professional development models that can be replicated with other instructors and programs statewide. 2.Tailored training materials and processes. 3.Customized technical assistance. 4.New resources to use in CCR implementation efforts. 5.Opportunities to collaborate with other adult education programs. 8
