EKG Technician MVROP Dr. Dhana Uppula

2 Program Details  This 2 quarter class offers 4 hour class of 240 hours of in class instruction at ROP from 10:15AM-2:30PM Mon-Fri and 120 hours of On the Job Training (OJT) at Kaiser  Class requirements include high school diploma/GED mandatory immunizations, having passed basic English & math skills test and/or interest to work in Health industry  The class provides training for an entry level job position as an EKG Technician/EKG monitoring technician  Following successful completion of the course the students will be able to take an exam for certification as CET by the National Healthcareer Association.

3 EKG Technician First quarter will cover basic concepts of cardiovascular system including anatomy, physiology, essential skills needed to operate the equipment and perform an EKG, and advanced EKG performing skills including Holter, Event monitoring, stress EKG, interpretation, and clinical significance Second quarter includes internship at medical facilities to acquire on the job clinical training and employability skills

4 Objectives Classroom instruction includes role of the Electro cardiographer, the anatomy and physiology of cardiovascular system, the Electrocardiograph, equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, EKG interpretation, law-ethics, medical terminology, vital signs, CPR, and special procedures like Stress EKG, and Ambulatory electrocardiography.

5 Purpose of Internship Students acquire real world experience in patient care and improve their competencies by hands on experience on the job training. Opportunity to get employed while on internship or after in hospitals like Kaiser, Sutter’s health or to fir into cardiology career pathway. Cardiovascular Technologist is a high paid job in the career ladder.
