2 Overview of the Program
The Health Science Program at Gibson County has the purpose of preparing students to go into advanced careers in Health Care. Health science is one of the largest industries in the country, with more than 11 million jobs, including the self-employed. Wage and employment in the health services industry is projected to increase more than 25 percent through with creation of about 2.8 million new jobs. ALWAYS a need for Health Care Workers

3 Interesting Healthcare Facts
The single most effective way to prevent infection is by simply washing your hands Every cigarette smoked, takes 7-11 minutes off of your life. More germs are transferred by shaking hands than by kissing If the special mucus linings of the stomach were to disappear, your stomach would digest your own body. The smallest bones in the body are found in the ear.

4 Classes Available at GC
Health Science Education Health Science Education is an introductory course designed to prepare students to pursue careers in the fields of public health, therapeutics, health informatics, diagnostics, and support services. Medical Therapeutics Medical Therapeutics is an applied course designed to prepare students to pursue careers in therapeutic and nursing services. Anatomy and Physiology Anatomy and Physiology is an upper level course designed to develop an understanding of the structures and functions of the human body

5 Courses Available at GC
Emergency Medical Services the Emergency Medical Services program of study and is designed to prepare students to pursue careers in the fields of emergency medicine. Pharmacology intended to prepare students with an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the healthcare worker in a pharmacy setting. Nursing Education prepare students to pursue careers in the field of nursing Clinical Internship work-based learning experience designed to provide students with real-world application of skills and knowledge obtained in a pre-requisite Health Science course

6 Real Work Experience and Certifications
Real Work experience while in High School Nursing Education- provide care to patients in the Dyer Nursing Home during part of the school day. Clinical Internship- placed in a nearby healthcare facility during part of the school day. Able to practice skills learned in class such as taking a blood pressure, vital signs, etc. Certifications Available Emergency Medical Responders Certification upon completion of the Emergency Medical Services Course and passing a State Exam Certified Nurse Assistant Certification upon completion of the Nursing Education Course and Passing a State Exam
