Functions of the Cardiovascular Technologist

2 Invasive Cardiovascular Technologists work in cardiac catheterization laboratories and cardiac research facilities. They assist the cardiologist in performing diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization, angiography procedures and measuring cardiovascular parameters.

3 The Catheterization Team : their functions /technical viewpoints

5 Technician Viewpoint The circulating technologist provides care to patients undergoing cardiac catheterization - preparing and maintaining the cardiac cath suite for all cardiovascular procedures, and establishing and assembling the type and quantity of material and special equipment needed for daily procedures and possible emergencies. They also respond to surgical emergency requirements such as cardiac, pulmonary or respiratory failure and hemorrhage.

6 Scrub Tech

7 Scrub tech Scrub tech assist in surgical operations under the supervision of cardiologist, registered or other surgical personnel. They prepare the cardiac cath lab and patient prior to surgery and assist the cardiologist during the procedure.

8 The Medical Imaging

9 Medical Imaging The radiologic technologist is trained in x-ray principles, use of the power injector and digital imaging systems.

13 Monitoring responsibilities
Responsible for the monitoring and recording of the ECG and the hemodynamic data and keeping the physician apprised of changes in cardiac pressures and rhythms. The technician must be able to interpret pressure and ECG

17 Invasive Cardiovascular Technology Professionally Leads To
Graduates from the program are eligible to sit for the exam to become a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) credential offered by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). After passing the exam, the graduate is eligible for limited medical radiologic (LMRT) licensure in the state of Texas.
