Introduction Hello, My name is Zen this is my Japan Project. Hope you enjoy!!!

Japanese Climate From north to south, Japan covers nearly 25 degrees of latitude about 3,300 km. Hokkaido, in the north, has short summers and long snowy winters while the Kyushu island in the south have long, subtropical summers and milder winters.

Japan – The Land Japan is a country made up of many islands. These islands form a long chain which stretches 4000 kilometres from north to south. The four main islands are called Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu. Altogether there are about 3900 islands in Japan. The total land area of these islands is square kilometres. Which make Japan one and a half times bigger than the UK. Over million people live in Japan, of which 34 million people live in the capital city Tokyo. Japan is a beautiful place with many mountains and lakes. Some of the mountains are volcanic and about 60 are active. Earthquakes occur frequently and in the late summer some areas suffer from tropical storms called typhoons

Japanese Art – Manga/Anime Manga is a Japanese style of art. It is mainly used in comics. Manga originates In the 12 th century made in Scrolls, one of the famous manga comics are naruto, which turned into a famous cartoon. Anime is also a style of Japanese art but it is mainly used in cartoons. Avatar and power puff girls is the one of the most famous anime cartoons. Naruto and power puff girls below

Japan – Food and Drimk Japans favourite food are fish. Which gives a very low rate of heart disease in Japan. Sushi is one of Japans most common foods. It is made from sea weed, soy sauce and most importantly rice. Chop sticks are also a very important part of a Japanese dinner. Japan have very weird soft drinks, likes of cucumber pepsi, diet water and even kidsbeer but it is non alcoholic.

Japanese Sport – Sumo Wrestling Sumo wrestling dates back at least 2000 years ago. It is a full contact sport and the only way to win is to force your opponent out of the dohyo (the ring). For being a sumo wrestler you get paid 900,000 to 2 million yen monthly.

Fishing in Japan Fishing is popular in Japan. It’s a way for fishers to make money. Although whaling is a big issue in Japan because eating whales is part of there diet and whaling is illegal, only if it is for scientific research you are allowed to kill a whale.

Japanese Culture - Karate Karate was founded in It is a form of martial arts and used for self defence. Sensei is a teacher of karate and helps you perfect moves. You practise in a dojo. Karate is not an Olympic sport. It was under consideration for the 2012 Olympics but did not get enough votes.

Japan Schools In Japan school is just like us in scotland although there are differences. Japan get 9 years of education and high school is optional. School is on from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm. Japanese schools also do not have prom and 2/3 of Japanese children go to night school.

Landmarks of Japan There are many landmarks in Japan including the mountain mount fuji, the biggest mountain in Japan. Also there is; ise shrine, Akashi Kaiyko suspension bridge and hakone lake district. There is lots more aswell.

Japanese Clothes A kimono is traditional Japanese clothes. They are a very old piece of clothing and date back to 600 ad. Kimonos are worn during ceremonies and sometimes worn daily. Men and women kimonos are different. Colours are more brighter for women and men usually have a picture of an animal on theirs.
