 Milk Lab Chemistry GT 8/25/14 Please find your seat! Names are on the cards found in the upper, right corner of each desk.

Introduction  Hi! I’m Ms. Bloedorn (BLAY-dorn). Welcome to Chemistry GT!  More about me later…  We are going to dive right into doing an experiment!

Drill  Please write this drill in a spiral-bound notebook. If you do not have one, please write it on a separate sheet of paper, and transfer to a spiral-bound notebook ASAP.  What is milk? What important macromolecules does it contain? What nutrients?  HW:  Get the Parent Letter Confirmation filled out and fill out the Self-Evaluation and Tech Inventory – both are online at msbloedorn.weebly.com  Finish Milk Lab, if needed

Objectives  IWBAT  Create a hypothesis based on observations.  Design a new experiment that uses a different set of variables, similar to today’s experiment.

Milk Lab  Please look over the Milk Lab.  Please carefully read over the procedure.  Do you have any questions?  You will work in groups of 2-3. You are working with the person next to you. If there is no one next to you, you are working with the pair closest to you.  Once you have finished gathering the data, you may return to your seats to begin working on the questions.

Classroom Expectations  You will be seated at your desk and working on the warm- up when the bell rings  “Pop Warm Up Quizzes”  Use the bathroom, water fountain, pencil sharpener before class  Students must ask for permission to leave the classroom

Classroom Expectations  You are expected to follow the Howard County Code of Contact  No Cell Phones or electronics during class. Devices must be silent and out of sight. (Not left on vibrate)  Instructional use will be permitted under the teachers direction  No hats  No food OR gum

Materials  You are expected to come prepared to class  Pen/Pencil  Spiral Notebook for Drills  Composition Book for Lab Data and Formal Labs  Binder (or Folder) – your personal preference  Calculator  Textbook will be passed out during the second week of school

Grades  Grades will be posted online. Grades will be rounded based on the county requirement.  Categories:  50% Tests, Quizzes  25% Labs (most lab work)  15% Classwork/ Homework  10% Projects (includes STEM Fair, Formal Labs)

Late Work  Accepted the next day at the beginning of class for half-credit  Any work handed in after one day will not be accepted and will be given zero credit

Absence  Your responsible for making up work when absent  For excused absences you will be given the same number of days that you missed to make up the work  Unexcused absences will result in not being allowed to make up missing work  Students have one week to make up missed exams and labs  Check the make up folder, ask your peers, then ask me!

Lab Safety  Lab safety is a priority in the chemistry classroom  All students are required to sign the safety contract  You MUST wear goggles and closed-toe shoes to participate in lab.  Failing to follow rules will cause removal from the lab and a zero on the assignment!

Redo Policy Students will be afforded redo opportunities on assignments/assessments based upon the overall class performance on those assignments/assessments, but individual students may discuss the possibility of a redo with his/her teacher. DO NOT ask to redo a test while taking a test
