Jodi’s Student Led Conference Science ~ 2015

What have I learned about this year? This year, I have learned about a lot of things, but some of the bigger topics were…  Bohr models/ Dot structures  Sea Floor Spreading  Ocean life  The four major spheres  Rocks and Minerals

My favorite part of science My favorite part of science this year would have to be learning about the ocean animals and creating a stop motion video about an animal of my choice. This is because I personally like animals and I thought that it was really interesting to learn about the animal that I chose to research, as well as the animals that my classmates chose to research.

My least favorite part of science My least favorite part of science this year would have to be the color contour mapping. This is because it was very tedious, took a lot of my time, and was generally confusing for the most part. Also, if you messed up on any part in the graph, you would have to start over because the whole thing would be incorrect.

On a scale of 1-5 (5 being the best) rate yourself on your ability to complete all the assignments for class. Why?  I would rate myself as a 5  This is because I complete and turn in all the class assignments on time, and I feel that I work very hard to understand all the material that we are covering. When it comes to things such as projects, I do my absolute best to turn it in early, while still doing a good quality job. As for tests and quizzes, I spend a lot of time studying for them.

On a scale of 1-5 (5 being the best) rate yourself on your class time effort & positive contributions to class discussion(s). Why?  I would rate myself as a 4  This is because I generally use my class time very effectively, but occasionally I get a little off task. As for contributions to class discussions, I tend to give my opinion only when I feel that I have something really important to add that would benefit the discussion (so really, I could contribute a little more than I am currently).

On a scale of 1-5 (5 being the best) rate yourself on your ability to work with others in class. Why?  I would rate myself as a 4  This is because when I work with others, my partner and I try to divide up the workload evenly and get everything done accordingly. Sometimes, there would be some work that was left unfinished after dividing it, and I would have to work harder to complete the project in time. Also, occasionally there might be a slight disagreement on something like a topic, but it gets sorted out shortly after.

Describe/list steps you will take to improve upon your performance for next quarter/year. Why?  I think for next quarter/year I would like to improve my time management on projects. This is because most of the time I complete my projects with time to spare, but occasionally I leave a lot of it to do on the days closer to the due date and I tend to start rushing. In order to improve this I will…  Plan Ahead: consider other homework/ activities I might have that week.  Space out the project: don’t try to finish it all in one or two days.

Has your performance in Science this year been improving, getting worse, or staying the same? Can you explain why this may be the case?  In my opinion, my performance in science this year has stayed the same. I think the reason for this is that I have been working hard and putting a lot of effort into science all year, and I have continued doing that until now (and hopefully the rest of the school year as well). I have consistently scored well on assignments, tests, projects, etc. and I have gotten good reviews/ comments.
