Bell-work 8/22/13 Hypothesize: How could have humans first arrived in North and South America from other continents without the use of boats? EQ: How did humans first arrive in the Americas?! TSWBAT understand how humans first arrived in the Americas

EQ: How did humans first arrive and settle North and South America? The First Americans EQ: How did humans first arrive and settle North and South America?

Land Bridge Theory Earth’s last glaciation period began around 110,000 years ago and lasted 22,000 years

So how did it happen? Paleo-Indians: Nomadic (hunter gatherers) people crossed the exposed land bridge called Beringia into present day Alaska around 13,000 years ago They were following wild game Eventually these early humans migrated throughout North and South America and made up our early culture groups

Evidence?

Adaptation to the Americas Migrating South from Beringia Large game disappeared Nomadic  Permanent settlements Farming and Irrigation developed Farming communities grew into cities and cities became the first centers for government and religious life in the Americas RIP Manny!

Activity: You will create a cartoon that illustrates and summarizes the events that led humans into the Americas *Ice Agerise in ocean levelsland bridge exposedpaleo indians crossindians migrateindians create first civilizations* You must first complete the writing portion of the cartoon before you illustrate, you are required to have 6 boxes You will be graded on the content of your cartoon, not the illustration
