Working for safer daily living for children throughout Europe…

This project aims to develop national action plans to enhance child safety in countries within the European Union.

INJURY AND ACTION INDICATORS ACTION PLAN MENTORING PROCESS GOOD PRACTICE GUIDE CHILD SAFETY ACTION PLANS IN 18 COUNTRIES

INJURY AND ACTION INDICATORS CHILD SAFETY ACTION PLANS IN 18 COUNTRIES data from existing databases new data from country participants results of Leadership, Infrastructure & Capacity survey Country specific report cards

Report Cards 1)how well a country is doing to make it safe for children, 2)what priority issues need to be addressed, and 3)which good practices should be adopted to prevent accidental injuries and to save more children’s lives.

Report Cards Assess the extent of safety measures provided to children and adolescents by examining and grading the adoption, implementation and enforcement of national level evidence-based policies Provides a multi-country overview to facilitate European-level planning to support national level efforts

Report Cards Written and practical policy Focus on policies with good evidence that adoption, implementation and enforcement at national level has positive impact on child safety (based on good practice guide) Not included – regional or local policies Country partners contacted government departments –Adoption, implementation and enforcement of current policies

Rating Each policy assessed on 3-point scale 2=policy existing, clearly stated, fully implemented and enforced 1= policy existing, clearly stated but only partly implemented or enforced 0=policy does not exist or not clearly stated

Rating 5-star ratings calculated for each of 12 areas (9 safety areas + 3 strategies)  composite score for each area X 5 (rounded to nearest half star) Overall safety grade = sum of sub-area scores (range 0-60 points)
