FUNDING OF CLUB SPORTS IN WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY

Purpose of Club Sports "The purpose of Club Sports at Wayne State University is to provide members of the student body with an opportunity to participate in sports and activities that promote socialization, physical activity, lifetime fitness and wellness practices." ( df)

Background Club Sports have been here at Wayne State University since June 2007 ( They are completely self funded No scholarships

Problem Currently WSU Club Sports funded by the university’s students/members are decreasing one by one. It has been brought to the attention of the Club Sports members that Club Sports are lacking funding leading to cancellation of Club Sports.Currently WSU Club Sports funded by the university’s students/members are decreasing one by one. It has been brought to the attention of the Club Sports members that Club Sports is lacking funding leading to cancellation of certain sports.

Research Methods and Results Stakeholder Analysis- Interviews from members within Club Sports at Wayne State Coach: - Do not change the current landscape, just look to better the program altogether - Need more manpower - More communication between members and faculty

Student Risk Chair and Club Hockey member: · More man power · More funding from the school · Get image out in public with community service and fundraising · Prevent anymore teams from being cancelled

Club Rugby member: · Focus on advertising · Networking to recruit · Represent Wayne State positively in the community and on campus

Other Issues Page for Club Sports on Wayne State Athletic's website lack information and detail Statistics online show Wayne State lacks teams in sports such as: Men's Softball and Men's Volleyball

Research Methods and Results Corporate Culture- Varsity Women's Hockey cancelled in 2011 Varsity Men's Hockey cancelled in 2007 Many teams on verge of folding Teams do not have necessary resources (funding and people) to start a team

Research Methods and Results Competitive Intelligence- Other school's (U of Michigan and U of Windsor) receive ample funding from school Other schools have large yet effective athletic departments with several people dividing up responsibility

Criteria Ease of Implementation- minimal planning and preparation

Implementations benefit Club Sports and more importantly, the Athletic Department- benefits the department in as many ways possible, as soon as possible

Positively enhance image or appeal of Wayne State Athletics- Strengthens public involvement Strengthens campus presence

Cost Effectiveness- cheapest prefered more expensive solutions move down the priority list of if deemed necessary set future goals

Possible Solutions Solution 1- Request the school provides financial support for the Club Sports program. simplest quickest assists teams with getting started saves teams from folding

Solution 2- Teams join in fundraising and community Represent Club Sports rather than individual team More opportunity provided to struggling teams or teams that are attempting to start up

Solution 3- Upgrade the facilities and expand manpower No more settling on 'up to standard', strive to exceed expectations Getting out on campus and in community Large collective staff and member effort More appealing in all aspects o facilities, uniforms, website

Evaluation Solution 1- Immediate assistance to struggling or forming teams Future goals met sooner Positive influence to body department and student body Very Expensive

Solution 2- Teams unite to fundraise as a program Represents brand positively on campus and in community Large effort from small group Difficult to find time

Solution 3- Increases appeal of department, which draws more interest First-class appearance First-class facilities Very expensive Fixes current issue but leaves minimal room for improvement or upgrades later

Recommendation Solution 1- Request school for sponsorship benefits all stakeholders and more solves issues quickly improves function and image most

THE END Thank you for watching!!
