LaTonya Greer MEDT 7469 Visual Literacy Project

I want to do more than just read stories aloud to my students.

Story time should be a fun and engaging experience for students.

After Listening to a nonfiction story about ladybugs.

The students labeled the parts of the ladybug.

Afterwards, the students were able to observe the ladybugs.

The first graders in this class wrote three sentences about what they observed.

Finally, I took the class outside to release the ladybugs.

This is the old Destiny OPAC catalog that my students used to locate books.

This is Destiny Quest which has additional visual features for students to use when they are trying to locate books.

Students can view a list of the top ten books that have been checked out of the media center.

Destiny Quest offers: Bold Graphics Easy Navigation There is a shelf feature that enables students to see exactly where books are located on the shelf. Students can also write book reviews.

I notice that students get bored with completing basic paper and pencil book report forms.

Power Point I have the students use Power Point to do book reports, book reviews and book talks. Each month I select a few to loop continuously on closed circuit television. This is a great way to promote reading.

Book Talk By: Jayla Cowins
