4. About the Characters Opal is the main character. She is very quiet. She likes peanut butter sandwiches. Winn-Dixie is the dog that Opal found. He is named after the Winn- Dixie Market. He does lots of funny things. Gloria Dump is an older lady who lives in Opal’s new town. She has no teeth and can’t see colors. She depends on her heart.

5. Conflict When Opal found Winn Dixie he was in the Winn Dixie Market and the workers were chasing him. He didn’t have a home, so Opal took him to hers because she didn’t want him to go to the pound. Her Dad didn’t want to keep him.

6. Solution She promised she would take care of Winn-Dixie all by herself. She told her Dad she would do everything. Then after her Dad spent time with the dog, he liked him too and said that Opal could keep him.

7. Plot It about a girl named Opal who’s mom left her and her dad and they moved to Florida. Where Opal met a dog named Winn-Dixie that summer. She met a bunch of friends and they had fun. She gets invited to a party and has one of her own. She goes to the library and Miss Franny Block gives her a litmas losenge. It tasted sad and happy but it tasted good. She also goes to the pet shop where she meets Otis and Sweety Pie and she goes to Gloria Dump’s garden. She likes where she lives now but she misses her old home.
