Lab Safety Rules

Never eat or drink in the lab (this includes chewing gum) Never eat or drink in the lab (this includes chewing gum). The food, drink, or gum may become contaminated. Never eat or drink from lab glassware. Do not play practical jokes in the lab. Always act responsibly. Do not perform experiments unless instructed to do so by your teacher. Don’t mix chemicals for “fun” If an accident occurs, promptly report it to your teacher.

6) Keep equipment and work areas clean and organized. 7) Wear eye protection, aprons, closed toe shoes and other safety protection as directed by your teacher or the instructions in the lab. 8) Follow safety instructions precisely as stated in your book and/or teacher. Do not perform experiments that have not been approved by your teacher.

19) You should not wear contact lenses in the lab because chemical vapors could get between your eye and the lens, the lens may fall out, and chemical vapors could interact with the lens itself. 20) Never smell a chemical directly. If instructed to smell a chemical point the container away from your face and gently fan the vapors toward your nose. 21) When heating a test tube, point the test tube away from yourself and others.
