Rudyard Kipling was born in 1865 in Bombay, in the family of a Professor of the local arts school John Lockwood Kipling and Alice (MacDonald) Kipling.

He was named Rudyard, after the lake in England where his parents met for the first time.

As he was born in India, Kipling was interested in the magical world of Indian myths and fairy tales in his childhood.

A six year old Kipling was sent to England where he lived with a couple Mr. and Mrs. Holloway. It was a very difficult time for him.

The bad days came to an end in 1877 when Alice K. (her mother), returned to England and took her children away with her. He received his learning at United Services College at Westward Ho, North Devon.

Later he began to work in one of the local newspapers and started to write poems at the same time. His first book was called “Departmental Ditties”

He began to write stories for children; his famous tales “The Jungle Book" and “The Second Jungle Book" are nowadays the most popular. He also published a poetry collection, “The Seven Seas" and “The white thesis”.

In 1901 Kipling published the novel "Kim", which is considered to be one of the best novels of the writer. He wrote his famous books "Puck of Pook’s Hill" and "Rewards and Fairies".

The popularity of his works was growing rapidly. He published 6 books of his stories in 1888, which brought him recognition.

Kipling travelled a lot, he visited America, and Japan, Canada, France, South Africa. But his native country was India. The famous tale “Adventures of Mowgli” appeared there.

Awards of the writer: Nobel prize for literature (1907) Award from the University of Paris, Strasbourg, Athens and Toronto (1907) Honorary degrees from Oxford, Cambridge, Edinburgh and Durham universities (1907)

Rudyard Kipling died in 1936 and was buried in Westminster Abbey.
