3 Kipling was born in Bombay, India
His father was a professor there Because Kipling’s father was a British citizen, his children were allowed to attend school in England Rudyard’s life in England as a child was unhappy and rebellious

4 At 17 he returned to India He became a journalist and was extremely popular His books made their way back to England and became popular there, too He was offered the position of Poet Laureate, but declined He was often criticized for his views of imperialism

5 Kipling didn’t believe that England was superior, but that England had a responsibility to share its culture and knowledge with the world Kipling was the first British writer to receive the Nobel prize in literature
