Reasons to Automate Our Libraries -To uniformly catalog library material -To use a web-based catalog to find and process materials -To loan and borrow materials through district or statewide integrated circulation system -To manage library materials through integrated cataloging, inventory, reports, and circulation components

INFOhio INFOhio (Information Network For Ohio Schools) - a statewide cooperative project to create an electronic network linking Ohio students, teachers, library/media specialists and others via computer to: -School libraries in the same district and across the state -College and University libraries through cooperative efforts with OhioLINK -Public and special libraries through cooperative efforts with OPLIN -Electronic databases of government, education, and other information

INFOhio services include - School library automation -Instructional development for teachers -Electronic resources for teachers -Media resources -Curriculum Resource Catalog

Library Automation Software -INFOhio uses SirsiDynix software -circulation of library materials -uniform cataloging of materials -searching library collections through online catalogs

Areas of Cost to Library Automation -System Purchase -Site Preparation -Conversion Costs -Operating Costs -Staff Training

System Purchases May include the following: -Staff workstations -Patron OPAC stations -Barcode Scanners -Receipt Printers -Slave/Network Printers

Site Preparation -Updating power supply -Updating electrical wiring -Cable for networking -Furniture -Adequate HVAC system -Telecommunication Costs

Conversion Costs Costs of conversion of library catalog -In house conversion vs. conversion contractor -Bar coding costs

Operating Costs -Ongoing utility and telecommunication costs -INFOhio costs based on ADM cost rather than institutional flat fee

Staff Training Ohio link provides staff training at the cost of $600 per full day session or $400 per half day session MEC provides free online help desk

Possible Funding Assistance LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act) automation grant -Sponsored through the State Library of Ohio -Covers 75% of the costs of automation with a 25% local match

Library Automation in Ohio Schools -Over 2,000 buildings are automated through INFOhio -This includes almost 500 school districts -More than 1.1 million students Let's be a part of it!
