Warm Up Pg. 36 #’s 1-30 EVEN ONLY

Objective: To add integers. Copy into notes section; Adding Integers With the Same Sign Rule 1:   The sum of two positive integers is a positive integer. Step 1 – Add the absolute value of the numbers Step 2 – Keep the sign the same. Ex: 4 + 3 Step 1 - 4 + 3 = 7 Step 2 - 7 Rule 2:   The sum of two negative integers is a negative integer. Ex: -5 + (-6) Step 1 - 5 + 6 = 11 Step 2 - -11

Adding Integers With Different Signs Rule : To add a positive and a negative integer follow these steps: Step 1 Find the absolute value of each integer. Step 2 Subtract the smaller number from the larger number. Step 3 The sum (answer) takes the sign of the integer with the larger absolute value. Example 1: Find the sum of +7 and -4. (7 + -4) Step 1:   |+7| = 7 and |-4| = 4 Step 2:   7 - 4 = 3   Step 3:   The number 3 will take a positive sign since +7 is farther from zero than -4. Solution: 7 + - 4 = 3

Example 2: Find the sum of -9 and +5. Step 1: |-9| = 9 and |+5| = 5 Step 3:   The number 4 will take a negative sign since -9 is farther from 0 than +5. Solution: -9 + +5 = -4 Example 3: Find the sum of +6 and -7. Step 1:   |+6| = 6 and |-7| = 7 Step 2:   7 - 6 = 1 Step 3:   The number 1 will take a negative sign since -7 is farther from 0 than +6. Solution: +6 + -7 = -1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYHjT0m_iyQ

Adding Integers BINGO Rules: All black numbers are + Red numbers are – Add 24 integers to your bingo board. * 12 need to be positive and 12 need to be negative. * The integers need to range from -20 to 20 Rules: All black numbers are + Red numbers are – First one to get Bingo wins! Steps: 1)Add the two integers together. 2) If you have the sum on your board cross it off. 3) First one to cross off 5 in a row wins!
