1 st hour turn in your papers from yesterday!

Value Scale of the UNIT 1 Vocabulary Develop a value scale that shows the words you feel the most confident in remembering to the terms you feel the least confident in remembering (1. You know the best…..8. You still have no clue or struggle to remember the concept) Foundational elements Symbols (of the US government and otherwise) Democracy (indirect vs. direct) Dictatorship (oligarchy and autocracy) Declaration of Independence Equality vs. Fairness Natural Rights of Man (life, liberty, pursuit of happiness) Rule of law

Welcome to Kindergarten! In pairs, draw and label a kindergarten classroom (nap area, play area, “timeout” area, etc.). Below your drawing you must explain the basic routine of the kids each day. Minimum of 8 components (or steps) of the routine. You have 10 minutes until we discuss your pictures and routine.

Using your kindergarten classrooms as examples, what if… 1.…the classroom had no organization? What is likely to happen? 2.…their was no routine for the kids to follow? What is likely to happen? 3.…if their were no adults in the classroom at all throughout the day? What is likely to happen?

You tell me… What is government? What is it supposed to do?

Now, let’s Build a House List the basic elements of your house (rooms). List 5 key materials needed for building your house. What is the most important component of building this house? What part of its structure is the most significant to it remaining strong?

You tell me… Why is the foundation of something so important?

What does our government look like? What words best describe our government? List 8 to 10. Now let’s see if you were correct: For each of the following symbols, explain what it represents in our government in 1 to 3 words. If you already had that word listed then underline the term.

Extension Activity In one complete paragraph, use the following terms: government, foundational elements, symbols. You should be trying to define and explain the terms in a concise and coherent paragraph. Do not list a series of definitions.
