Cáceres Capital City Cáceres Capital City The Maltravieso Caves can be found right outside of what is now known as Cáceres The caves were inhabited during the Paleolithic and Neolithic periods in history The inhabitants left strange wall paintings, and later artifacts such as pottery and tools

Paleolithic Painters Numerous paintings of hands have been found in the caves Of 12 clear outlines, only one has all of the fingers and joints intact These paintings were probably made by blowing paint through a reed (see picture)

Visiting the Caves The caves are closed to the public to protect the delicate paintings and prehistoric weapons and tools inside Visitors can walk outside the caves, or visit a realistic reproduction which has been built right next door

Touring Cáceres There are 4 sections of Cáceres, the historic quarter, the city centre, “La Judería” (the Jewish quarter), and the outlying areas Some remarkable places to visit: Iglesia de Santa María, Veletas Palace (which features Arabic art), Arco de la Estrella, Palacio de la Isla, and Plaza San Juan
