MINI TRAGEDY AND GREEK MASKS Small group project

PRODUCT  Write a brief play including ALL characters from your acting company and the elements of tragedy.  Write one script. I will make copies for the acting company.  Perform the play using the masks.  See the rubric for guidelines.

ELEMENTS OF GREEK TRAGEDY  Include several of the following: A tragic hero A tragic flaw/s Death or ruin of the tragic hero Complications Conflict Intervention from the gods Fate

PROCESS  Work together to create the dialogue and plot for the mini tragedy.  Assign props, costumes, set pieces.  Rehearse your play out loud.  Be ready on the performance dates.  The play should have a beginning, middle and an end. It should make sense.

FOLLOW UP  *What elements of Greek theater did this company include?  *What was (the main character's) tragic flaw?  *Can we still find elements of Greek tragedy in our world today? Provide an example.  *As a performer, what challenges did you face wearing a mask?  *As an audience member, what challenges did the masks present?
