Plastic When clay is plastic, which means to be easily formed, and is wet to the touch but still holds it’s shape

Leather Hard When the clay has begun to dry and feels cool to the touch, but it does not bend well without cracking.

Green Ware The clay feels dry and chalky. It may feel a little cool to the touch. The clay will not move without breaking. Also referred to as Bone Dry.

Bisque Ware After the clay has been fired for the first time in the kiln and before it has been glazed.

Glaze Ware After the clay has been fired for the second time in the kiln to turn the glaze into the glass like exterior.
